Safety Plan

It should be the priority responsibility of every adult volunteer of Mission Trails Little League to keep our players safe. A League Safety Plan is drafted and widely distributed at the beginning of each Spring season. There is a copy in every Manager’s equipment bag.

The procedures in this manual are for the safety of every player and adult in this league. Safety will be a priority and never an afterthought. Anyone not abiding by these procedures will be removed from his or her position.

Accident Reporting Procedures & Forms

In the event of an injury during a game, practice, or league event, it’s essential to report the incident promptly to ensure proper documentation and follow-up care. Managers can use the following form to report accidents to the League Safety Officer within 24-48 hours of the injury occurrence.

Accident/Injury Reporting Form

For injuries that require medical attention, Little League International provides insurance to provide coverage that is not included by the injured player’s primary insurance. Please read “What Parents Should Know About Little League Insurance” for more information. When an insurance claim is necessary, the Accident Claim Form (link below) must be completed by parents and a league official.

Please note that the Accident Claim Form must be submitted to Little League International within 20 days of the incident.

Nobody was hurt too badly. Why is it so important to report injuries?

In our effort to prevent accidents and injuries to everyone who participates in Little League at Mission Trails, we must deal with the unpredictable actions of many young athletes. If we document the reasons behind unsafe acts and take suitable action to prevent them from happening again, the hope is that we can implement corrective measures to reduce or eliminate similar accidents in the future. For example, a turned ankle caused by a hole in the outfield that goes unreported can cause further injury to another player. Or, face injuries caused by improper use of a catcher’s mask means we need to improve our training or inspection procedures. A collision that occurs when two players go after the same fly ball reveals a need for additional emphasis on ball priority drills during the next practice. Accidents are unfortunate, but hopefully there are no significant injuries and we can glean information that makes our fields and/or protocols safer for everyone.

Abuse Awareness and Prevention

Creating a safe and positive environment for our players is at the heart of Mission Trails Little League. We are committed to protecting children from all forms of abuse and ensuring that every player, coach, and volunteer upholds the highest standards of safety and integrity. Child abuse will not be tolerated in any form. Suspected abuse must be reported and retaliation for good faith reporting is prohibited.

All MTLL managers and coaches are required to complete an annual background check and Abuse Awareness for Adults training provided by USA Baseball. There is also a course for children if you are interested in reviewing it for your child/ren.

Let’s work together to create a culture of awareness, education, and protection for all young athletes.
